HISGN at the Education Community Resource Fair

HISGN was invited and honored to set up a table and network with educators at the Education Community Resource Fair. This evening event, which took place on Thursday, March 7, from 5:30-7:00pm at the Hawaiʻi District Office, was organized by the 2024 Teacher of the Year cohort. They had planned a Spring Cohort Convening (March 7-8, 2024) in Hilo, so they could experience and learn from different communities around our state. This cohort visited schools and participated in rich discussions with school leaders, worked with UH Hilo preservice teachers, and engaged in professional development to focus on recruitment and retention efforts.

The evening was a fun gathering of motivated teachers and diverse community members from folks at the Mokupāpapapa Center to the University of Hawaiʻi. Teacher from the Hilo complex trickled in and out. Eleonor got a chance to talk story about what current garden activities were going on in various Hilo schools, in hopes of being a resource to help plan future garden activities in classrooms!

If you didn’t get yourself a cool Sprout pencil by visiting our table, check out Amazon for these great giveaways for students. You use the pencil to your liking, once you get close to the end, you plant the capsule full of seeds in a pot of soil, water it, and voila, it will begin sprouting several weeks later!
